Bahrain highlights commitment to safe, stable energy markets at Fujairah forum
His Excellency Dr. Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications, emphasised Bahrain’s and the international community’s commitment to ensuring a safe, stable, and sustainable global energy market during the 13th Energy Markets Forum (EMFWEEK 2025) held in Fujairah, UAE, on October 1-2.
Speaking at the forum under the theme “How Could the Midstream Energy Industry Reimagine Growth in a Disrupted World: Risks and Opportunities?”, Dr. Shaikh Abdulla highlighted the critical role of international cooperation in maintaining secure supply chains and stable energy markets.
“Strengthening international cooperation and protecting vital maritime routes are key to ensuring energy market stability, environmental preservation, and supporting sustainable development,” he said.
During a session on maritime navigation leadership, the minister underscored the growing threats posed by illegal maritime activities.
“These illegal activities not only threaten maritime safety and environmental protection but also pose direct risks to the global economy and financial systems, especially in strategic waterways like the Strait of Hormuz, Bab al Mandab, and the Suez Canal, which handle most global trade,” Dr. Shaikh Abdulla explained.
He stressed the importance of leveraging modern technologies, such as satellite imagery, AI-based tracking, and data analytics, to monitor suspicious and non-compliant vessels, adding: “Imposing strict sanctions on ships, owners, and operators engaged in illegal activities is essential for ensuring the security and stability of energy markets.”
Opportunity
The forum, attended by energy experts, decision-makers, and investors from around the world, also provided an opportunity for Dr. Shaikh Abdulla to meet with Sheikh Saleh bin Mohammed bin Hamad Al Sharqi, Chairman of the Port of Fujairah Authority.
They discussed enhanced integration between Bahrain’s Khalifa bin Salman Port and Fujairah Port, focusing on developing marine and logistics services, supporting economic sectors, and boosting commercial partnerships.
Collaboration
“The collaboration between our ports will position them as key regional hubs for trade and maritime transport, ensuring sustainable supply chains that support national development plans and improve the region’s competitive role in the global economy,” Dr. Shaikh Abdulla added.
The forum’s main dinner honored leaders in ports and shipping, highlighting Fujairah’s pivotal role in global trade and energy movement, while reinforcing Bahrain’s commitment to secure and resilient energy markets.
