Appeal Fails in Forced Prostitution Case

The High Criminal Court of Appeal has upheld the verdict of the First High Criminal Court, sentencing four defendants to five years in prison each and imposing fines of BD 2,000 for forcing a victim into prostitution.

The court also ordered the defendants to cover the costs of repatriating the victim to her home country and ruled that they be permanently deported after serving their sentences.

According to case details, the victim testified that she arrived in Bahrain with the help of the first defendant, believing she would work as a hairdresser. Upon arrival, however, her passport was confiscated by the first and second defendants, who forced her into prostitution to generate money.

When she refused and requested to return home, she was beaten and threatened with imprisonment. She was later moved to another apartment, guarded by the second and third defendants, where she was again coerced into prostitution under threats and intimidation.

The victim eventually managed to escape and reported the abuse to authorities.
