Bahrain’s Military Hospital Launches Integrated Neuroscience Center

As part of its ambitious strategy to position Bahrain as a leading regional hub for advanced healthcare, the Royal Medical Services has launched a fully integrated Neuroscience Center at the Military Hospital.

Brigadier General Dr. Sheikh Fahad bin Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, Commander of the Royal Medical Services, said the new center reflects the directives of His Majesty the King and aligns with Bahrain’s Economic Vision 2030 by strengthening the national healthcare system. He described the initiative as a “significant milestone” that will transform neurology services through advanced diagnostic and treatment solutions.

The center will provide specialized care for conditions such as Parkinson’s disease, epilepsy, complex neurosurgeries, and deep brain stimulation. It is equipped with state-of-the-art neuroimaging systems, including advanced MRI and high-resolution CT scans, to ensure accurate diagnoses and faster interventions. Dedicated pediatric units will also offer individualized treatment plans, along with psychological and family support programs, ensuring comprehensive care that improves the quality of life for patients and their families.

Particular focus has been placed on Parkinson’s disease, given its growing impact in Bahrain. The Royal Medical Services has developed a unified medical pathway for patients, covering early diagnosis, advanced therapies, and surgical interventions.

In a groundbreaking development, the Neuroscience Center has also introduced ultrasound-based intracranial pressure (ICP) monitoring for the first time in Bahrain. Led by Dr. Hossam Al Jehani, Consultant Neurosurgeon and Head of the Neuroscience Department, the innovative technique enables rapid and precise assessment of brain pressure without surgical intervention. The procedure was successfully applied to a critically injured patient, with the non-invasive scan completed in just three minutes.

This initiative underscores Bahrain’s commitment to adopting world-class medical technologies and enhancing specialized healthcare services in the Kingdom.
