Bahrain Hosts Workshop on Teacher Licensing in GCC States

The Kingdom of Bahrain hosted an educational workshop titled “Teacher Licensing in the Member States of the Arab Bureau of Education for the Gulf States”, organized by the Arab Center for Educational Research for the Gulf States in cooperation with Bahrain’s Ministry of Education.

The workshop was inaugurated by Ms. Nawal Ibrahim Al Khater, Undersecretary at the Ministry of Education, who welcomed participating officials and education specialists from the GCC member states. She expressed gratitude to the Arab Center for its efforts in organizing the event and emphasized the importance of exchanging expertise to strengthen cooperation and achieve mutual benefit.

Ms. Mona Ahmed Al Badr, Director of Financial and Administrative Affairs at the Arab Center for Educational Research, also expressed her appreciation for hosting the workshop in Bahrain. She thanked the Ministry of Education for its support and extended her gratitude to all participants.

The workshop aimed to present and discuss the findings of an evaluative study conducted by the Arab Center on teacher licensing across member states. It also highlighted leading international practices in teacher licensing, reviewed member states’ experiences, and explored challenges and opportunities in implementing teacher license systems. Participants further proposed practical mechanisms to support policy development in professional teacher licensing and enhance cooperation among education specialists across the Gulf.

Discussions focused on five key themes:

  1. The concept and importance of teacher licensing in improving education quality.

  2. Leading international practices in teacher licensing.

  3. Findings of the evaluative study on teacher licensing in member states.

  4. Organizational and professional challenges in implementing teacher licensing systems.

  5. Opportunities for development and cooperation in this field.
