Bahrain Interior Ministry Foils Multiple Drug Smuggling Attempts, 19 Arrested

Manama, Sept. 23 (BNA) – The Ministry of Interior announced that the Anti-Narcotics Directorate at the General Directorate of Criminal Investigation and Forensic Science, as part of its ongoing efforts to protect society from the dangers of drugs, has successfully carried out several operations that led to the arrest of 19 individuals of various nationalities.

The suspects were apprehended in separate incidents in cooperation with Customs Affairs and an air cargo company. Authorities seized a total of approximately 16 kilograms of narcotic substances, with an estimated street value exceeding BD 113,000.

The Ministry stated that once information was received, intensive investigations, intelligence gathering, and evidence collection were conducted. These efforts resulted in identifying the suspects, who were subsequently arrested in possession of the drugs.

The seized substances have been confiscated, and the necessary legal measures were taken before referring the cases to the Public Prosecution.

The Criminal Media Directorate emphasized the importance of strengthening community partnership with institutions and different sectors of society by holding lectures and exhibitions to raise awareness about the dangers of drug abuse. The public was also urged to cooperate with security authorities by reporting any information related to drug trafficking or promotion via the hotline (996) or email 996@interior.gov.bh, assuring that all information will be treated with full confidentiality.
