His Excelency Wael bin Nasser Al Mubarak, Minister of Municipalities and Agriculture, and Her Royal Highness Princess Sarah bint Bandar bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Executive Director of the International Dates Council, signed an agreement to establish the International Date Observatory in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
H.E. Naif bin Bandar Al Sudairi, Saudi Ambassador to Bahrain, was present.
The observatory will serve as a global hub for collecting, analysing, and publishing data on the date industry, supporting transparency, international trade, and Bahrain’s agricultural heritage, while providing a reliable reference for decision-makers and member countries.
Royal visions
Al Mubarak highlighted that the initiative reflects Bahrain’s ongoing efforts to implement the visions of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, in developing the agricultural sector and strengthening Bahrain’s position as a regional and international center for the date industry.
He expressed appreciation for HRH Princess Sarah bint Bandar’s initiatives and the role of the International Date Council in promoting the sector.
She noted that hosting the observatory in Bahrain is a strategic step to enhance the global stature of dates as a strategic product and to transform the industry into a knowledge- and innovation-driven sector.
Cooperation
HRH Princess Sarah bint Bandar also commended Bahrain’s supportive environment and development vision, which aligns with the Council’s goals to advance the date industry and foster international cooperation.
The choice of Bahrain to host the observatory underscores its regional and international standing, its role as a hub for agricultural innovation, and its ability to serve as a platform for strategic initiatives in the global date sector.
