Parking relief at Muharraq Souk is being prepared, with the Ministry of Municipalities Affairs working with the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (BACA) to add and ready more spaces while keeping the city’s historic and cultural character.
The Ministry said it is working with the Ministry of Works and other concerned bodies under city-wide engineering studies to develop Muharraq.
Separately, the Ministry set out progress on the water canal and the dedicated fishermen’s passage in Halat Naim and Halat Seltah.
Study
A joint technical and environmental study by the Supreme Council for the Environment and the Ministry of Works recommends dredging and deepening within the area’s maritime limits to improve water flow, and refers to an earlier call for an underpass beneath the road that links Arad with the two islets.
The study also calls for funding to be provided so the Ministry of Works can prepare the technical studies and carry out the improvement works.
On the fishermen’s passage, the Ministry said excavation approvals from the Coast Guard Directorate at the Ministry of Interior are a basic requirement before work moves ahead.
