Bahrain Off to Flying Start in Asian Handball Championship

U17s crush Hong Kong 54–24, Mahmood Ali stars

The Bahrain U17 handball team opened their campaign at the Asian Men’s U-17 Championship in Amman with a 54–24 win over Hong Kong yesterday.

The tournament, which runs until 25 September, features 13 teams and also serves as a qualifier for the 2025 IHF Men’s U17 World Championship, to be held in Casablanca, Morocco from 24 October to 1 November. Only the top two teams, the finalists, will secure tickets to the world stage.

Bahrain U17s, drawn in Group A alongside Kuwait and Hong Kong, led 21–11 at halftime through strong defensive organization and extended their advantage in the second half, sealing their first three points.

Mahmood Ali was named Best Player of the Match after a standout performance.

Bahrain will face Kuwait at 1 PM today, with the top two teams in the group advancing to the main round of the competition.
