Bahrain Joins Regional Workshop to Advance Child Rights

The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) of Bahrain, represented by Dr. Shaimaa Abdullah Mohammed, Commissioner, participated in a regional workshop organized by the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) regional offices. The workshop, titled “Advancing Child Rights in the Region – Stakeholder Networking Workshop,” was held in Jordan’s capital, Amman.

During the three-day workshop, Dr. Shaimaa highlighted NIHR’s experience in promoting and protecting children’s rights in the Kingdom of Bahrain. Her presentation covered key areas including the institution’s legal framework, organizational structure, mandates, and its 2024–2025 strategy and action plan. She also discussed Bahrain’s first Annual Children’s Forum, “You Have the Right… You Have a Voice,” and initiatives such as the Child Rights Commissioner’s Friends Team, which empowers children to participate actively in decision-making. Additionally, she emphasized NIHR’s ongoing efforts to strengthen cooperation with relevant stakeholders.

The workshop brought together national human rights institutions, child rights experts, representatives from UNICEF and OHCHR, as well as youth activists from across the region. Participants aimed to enhance coordination, exchange knowledge, and develop joint strategic plans to advance and safeguard the rights of children throughout the MENA region.
