Southern Municipality Launches “Committed” Campaign to Keep Markets Clean
First-of-its-kind initiative targets shop workers
The Southern Municipality has launched a new awareness campaign called “Committed”, focusing on shop and market workers. The campaign encourages them to keep the areas around their shops clean and dispose of waste properly. The first campaign was held on Al-Hajiyat Street, East Riffa.
Promoting healthy and sustainable communities
The campaign aims to create cleaner, healthier communities by teaching workers the importance of proper waste disposal. It also advises them to:
-
Avoid wasting water in front of shops
-
Keep both the inside and outside of their stores tidy
-
Avoid blocking walkways with goods
These rules follow Public Cleanliness Law No. 10 of 2019 and Public Roads Occupation Law No. 2 of 1996.
Part of “Our Environment… Our Responsibility” initiative
The campaign is part of a wider effort by the Southern Municipality to raise awareness about public cleanliness. It also strengthens the partnership between the municipality and shop owners, reminding them of their important role in keeping public spaces clean.
Enhancing the look and feel of commercial areas
By encouraging proper hygiene and organized spaces, the initiative aims to improve the appearance of markets and the quality of life for residents and visitors. The municipality confirmed it will continue similar awareness and monitoring campaigns to ensure a clean, sustainable urban environment for all.
