Gulf Leaders Discuss Eco-Friendly Transport Solutions in Oman
Dr. Shaikh Abdullah bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Bahrain’s Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications, participated in the Gulf Green Mobility Forum held in Salalah, Oman. The event, organized under the patronage of Shaikh Salem bin Mustahil Al Ma’shani, Advisor at the Royal Diwan, brought together leaders, ministers, and experts from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries to promote environmental sustainability in the transport sector and encourage the use of clean and alternative energy solutions.
The forum, hosted by Oman’s Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology, focused on sharing regional experiences in sustainable transport and eco-friendly technologies. It highlighted policies and initiatives aimed at achieving carbon neutrality and reducing emissions in the transport sector.
During his visit, Dr. Shaikh Abdullah met with Oman’s Minister of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology, Eng. Said bin Hamoud Al Ma’awali, along with senior officials, to discuss ways to strengthen Gulf cooperation in green transport. They exchanged insights on best practices, innovation, and sustainability policies, as well as explored bilateral coordination between Bahrain and Oman on sustainable transport projects and technical knowledge sharing.
Dr. Shaikh Abdullah also toured Salalah Port and the Free Zone, observing container and cargo handling operations, modern logistics technologies, and plans for expanding the port’s capacity. He reviewed the Free Zone’s latest facilities and support services for local and international investors, emphasizing Salalah’s strategic role as a regional trade and transport hub. He reaffirmed Bahrain’s commitment to enhancing bilateral cooperation in transport, logistics, and free trade.
Additionally, the minister visited the Green Data Center, part of Oman’s “Vision 2040” initiative. The facility is powered by renewable energy, including solar and hydrogen, and uses seawater cooling technologies.
At the conclusion of his visit, Dr. Shaikh Abdullah praised Oman’s efforts in advancing sustainable transport and developing logistics infrastructure. He stressed the importance of strengthening Bahrain-Oman cooperation in transport, logistics, and trade, noting that this strategic partnership serves as a model for Gulf collaboration, supporting integration, sustainable development, and innovation in the region’s transport and logistics sectors.
