Cabinet Approves Landmark Agreement to Establish Date Palm Observatory in Bahrain

The Cabinet approved a draft law to establish the International Date Palm Council’s observatory in Bahrain, marking a significant step in strengthening the Kingdom’s role in global agricultural research and cooperation.

His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Deputy King, chaired today’s weekly Cabinet meeting at Gudaibiya Palace.

At the start of the meeting, the Cabinet extended warm congratulations to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa on the upcoming Mawlid Al-Nabi, praying for blessings, joy, security, and peace for the King, the people of Bahrain, and the Arab and Islamic nations.

The Cabinet also reviewed the implementation of the Crown Prince’s directive to hold an orientation day for parents at all government schools, where school staff will introduce the new academic year. Students and staff were wished success for the 2025–2026 school year.

Additionally, the Cabinet reaffirmed Bahrain’s support for initiatives promoting a culture of charitable work, highlighting the International Day of Charity.

Other key decisions included:

  • Approval of priority legislative projects to support national development.

  • Acquisition of properties for public use to support urban development.

  • Review of the Education and Training Quality Authority’s annual report for 2024–2025.

  • Approval of a proposed framework to evaluate special education institutions.

  • Government responses to draft laws and proposals submitted by the Council of Representatives.

The Cabinet also noted reports on Bahrain’s participation in international forums, including:

  • Ministerial meetings addressing plastic pollution, including in marine environments.

  • The 2025 Tatarstan Forum for Oil, Gas, and Petrochemicals.

  • The visit of the Minister of Youth Affairs to Jordan.

  • Foreign visits by Bahraini ministers and visits from ministers of friendly nations in September 2025.
