The First High Criminal Court has scheduled September 16 to issue its verdict in the case of a 24-year-old defendant accused of assaulting a motorist and causing him a 5% permanent disability, following a road-rage incident in Souq Waqif.

According to the Public Prosecution, the incident occurred on April 15, 2025, when the defendant struck the victim on the nose with his fist, causing injuries detailed in the forensic medical report. The attack resulted in a deviated nasal septum and partial blockage of the left nasal passage, classified as a permanent impairment. The defendant also deliberately damaged part of the victim’s car.

During Sunday’s hearing, the defendant admitted to punching the victim but claimed he was provoked, alleging that the victim had repeatedly honked his car horn at him, leading to a heated altercation.

The victim, in his testimony, said he was driving through Souq Waqif when the defendant blocked the road. After honking, he was confronted by the defendant, who verbally insulted him, punched him in the face causing heavy bleeding, and then kicked and damaged the car’s windshield.

A police corporal testified that while patrolling near a restaurant in Souq Waqif, he witnessed the altercation. He confirmed that the victim was bleeding and stated that, as he intervened to break up the fight, the defendant deliberately kicked and broke the victim’s car windshield.

The court is set to deliver its ruling on September 16.
