A Bahraini man jailed over a crash that killed three members of the same family and left two children badly injured is due to hear the outcome of his appeal on 14 August.

The High Criminal Appeals Court will decide whether to uphold the original sentence handed down for a head-on collision in Saar.

The Traffic Court had earlier sentenced the 29-year-old to six years in prison. It also ordered the suspension of his driving licence for one year after his release and the confiscation of the vehicle used in the crash.

The crash took place on 30 May 2025. Prosecutors said the man had been speeding, under the influence of drugs and alcohol, and entered the opposite lane without caution. He struck the victims’ car head-on.

The collision killed the driver, his wife and their son, and left two other children in the vehicle seriously hurt. The charges also included several traffic offences.

The prosecution called for the harshest penalty possible, arguing the man had shown no regard for the law or the lives of others.
