Adverts on Bahrain’s public buildings may be permitted in future if the Minister agrees, under changes backed by the Capital Trustees Board yesterday.
The amendment, which alters Article 12 of the 1973 law on regulating advertisements, gives the Minister of Municipalities Affairs the power to allow advertising on buildings used for public services, subject to conditions yet to be set by ministerial decision.
The rest of the restrictions remain in force. Adverts are still banned from mosques, heritage buildings, pavements, trees, roads, roundabouts and junctions.
The new wording adds only one change, placing discretion in the hands of the Minister to allow exemptions for public buildings.
The law, issued under Royal Decree No. 27 of 2025, was sent to the Board on 18 May.
It passed through the Financial and Legal Committee before being approved by the full Board yesterday.
In its report, the committee said the change would make it easier for councils and ministries to manage signage and keep up with changing advertising formats.
The need to maintain public safety was also noted.
