Bahrain and the United Kingdom are drawing up a new framework for parliamentary cooperation following talks in London between Council of Representatives Speaker Ahmed bin Salman Al Musallam and the Rt Honourable Sir Lindsay Hoyle, Speaker of the House of Commons.

The two sides agreed to establish a Bahrain–UK parliamentary friendship committee and to sign a memorandum of understanding that would set up regular channels for legislative and administrative exchanges between their respective assemblies.

The meeting took place yesterday at the Palace of Westminster and was attended by Bahrain’s Ambassador to the UK, H.E. Shaikh Fawaz bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, who also serves as Dean of the Arab Diplomatic Corps.

Also present at the meeting were First Deputy Speaker Abdulnabi Salman, MPs Hassan Eid Bukhamas, Hassan Ibrahim, Zainab AbdulAmeer, Maryam Al Dhaen, Dr Hisham Al Ashiri and Council Secretary-General Mohammed Al Sissi Al Buainain.

Investment

Al Musallam said Bahrain, under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, has built a robust legal system and offers a favourable climate for investment.

He noted the efforts of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, in advancing agreements across key areas including the economy, security and technology.

The Speaker added that Parliament is actively working to pass legislation that supports emerging sectors and cements Bahrain’s role as a stable financial centre backed by skilled national talent.
