Interior Minister to Inaugurate First International Conference on Alternative Sanctions

His Excellency Interior Minister General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa will officially open the First International Conference on Alternative Sanctions next Tuesday, marking a significant milestone in Bahrain’s criminal justice reform journey.

Organised by the Ministry of Interior, the conference will gather a distinguished panel of international and local speakers, experts, and specialists in restorative and criminal justice, as well as human rights. Participants will include policymakers, professionals, and researchers engaged in pioneering inmate rehabilitation and correctional programmes from around the world.

The event underscores the Interior Ministry’s continued efforts to implement progressive justice policies rooted in the principles of humane treatment and public safety. By fostering global dialogue, the conference aims to position Bahrain as a proactive advocate of modern alternatives to incarceration.

Key discussions will revolve around international experiences with alternative sentencing, practical mechanisms for implementation, and their positive impact on rehabilitating offenders. Delegates will also explore ways to promote community justice values and share best practices that can inspire policy development and institutional reform.

The conference signals Bahrain’s commitment to a justice system that balances accountability with reintegration and community well-being.
