A new overpass allowing traffic from Manama to cut straight through to Bahrain Airport is among four roadworks presented to the Muharraq Municipal Council during a meeting with the Ministry of Works.

The meeting was chaired by Mr Abdulqader Al Sayyed as part of the council’s Services and Utilities Committee, where ministry representatives briefed members on progress and upcoming works across Muharraq.

Among the schemes outlined was the fourth Muharraq–Manama bridge, starting from Busaiteen, and a new structure at the Falcon Monument junction.

The latter would let drivers heading out of Manama turn directly towards the airport without needing to filter through smaller streets.

Two further bridges were also discussed: one extending from the middle of Shaikh Isa bin Salman Bridge to Avenue 105 in Busaiteen (Al Sayh), and another connecting avenue 105 to the junction of the road leading to the airport and Al Ghous Highway.

Plans

The ministry also shared plans to improve existing roads, including resurfacing, drainage systems, and rainwater outlets.

Around two-thirds of the requested works in this category have been completed.

The remaining items are scheduled for a later phase.

Resurfacing

As for Block 202, Mr Al Sayyed said it had been due for resurfacing, but inspections showed problems with water pipes.

The ministry has since decided to carry out pipework upgrades before laying new asphalt.

Council members reviewed earlier requests sent to the ministry and remarked on how quickly some areas had seen results.

They thanked the government, including the Minister, Undersecretary, deputies and their teams, and pointed to shorter queues in several locations.

Improvements

These improvements, they said, had already been noticed by residents. If the current rhythm holds, members said the roadworks are likely to ease traffic and improve services across Muharraq.

The projects may also help boost the local economy.
