The Lower Criminal Court has adjourned the case of a lawyer accused of embezzling BD45,000 from a client to February 11, 2024, after the defendant failed to attend the hearing, although his lawyer was present in court.
According to court files, the defendant was tasked with recovering the amount for one of the companies he represented in a financial lawsuit against another institution.
The case concluded successfully, resulting in the recovery of the funds that the defendant was later accused of misappropriating. Shocked to learn of the money’s eventual fate, the plaintiff company lodged a formal complaint against the lawyer at the General Directorate of Anti-Corruption and Economic and Electronic Security.
The agency took immediate action, launching a thorough investigation into the allegations.
Following the investigation, a detailed report was submitted to the Capital Governorate Prosecution, which decided to initiate legal proceedings against the lawyer.
As part of the inquiry, witness statements were collected from various parties involved in the case, providing a clearer picture of the events surrounding the embezzlement.
The accused lawyer was summoned for interrogation, where he faced serious questions regarding his conduct and the handling of the recovered funds.
During questioning, the lawyer admitted to embezzling BD45,000, which he was obligated to remit to the company.
