Following the devastating fire that engulfed the old Manama Souq last week, a crucial meeting will be held after Eid al-Adha to discuss the aftermath and chart a path forward, sources revealed to the Daily Tribune. Representatives from various government ministries, including the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Municipalities, Ministry of Works, Ministry of Industry and Commerce, Ministry of Tourism, and the Capital Municipal Council, will convene to assess the damage and formulate a comprehensive response.

Over 70 properties, including shops, apartments, and historical buildings, were damaged, with estimates exceeding 10 million dinars, the Daily Tribune has learned.

Several buildings, some dating back over a century, were completely destroyed and deemed uninhabitable.

Sources revealed that the meeting is expected to conclude with a decision to demolish the severely damaged buildings and shops to ensure public safety and prevent further collapse.

"The authorities plan to acquire these properties and embark on a comprehensive redevelopment project for the affected area.

This redevelopment will prioritise safety and security, incorporating modern infrastructure, essential services, and improved accessibility," sources stated.

"Recognising the significant impact on livelihoods, the meeting will address the need to compensate affected businesses and residents.

There are already plans to provide financial assistance to shop owners, employees, and residents who lost their homes and businesses in the fire.

This support aims to alleviate the financial burden and assist them in rebuilding their lives," sources underlined.
