University warned over security lapses

ManamaA private university has been given a seven-day ultimatum to meet the security, safety and professional health requirements by the Higher Education Council (HEC).

The Kingdom University was ordered to submit an official certificate from the Civil Defence Directorate within a  week or  face  closure.

HEC issued a final warning, adding that the university would be held legally accountable for any health or physical harm sustained by students, employees or people present at the premises.

The university was ordered to operate the premises at minimum capacity and restrict work to necessary cases to ensure people’s safety during the week-ultimatum.

The HEC General-Secretariat said that the university failed to submit an update certificate from the Civil Defence Directorate accrediting the security and safety requirements.

In a statement yesterday, it said that the Kingdom University’s academic and administrative irregularities are under study, adding that necessary recommendations will be submitted to the council for adequate measures to be taken.
