Children’s Day celebrated
Manama : ‘Bahrain For All’ in association with the Ministry of Interior celebrated Universal Children’s Day at the Safra Girls School yesterday.
Brigadier Abdulla Al Zayed inaugurated the event. Samir Al Darabi, Director for United Nations Information Centre (UNIC), Bahrain, and officials attended the celebrations.
The event saw several activities for children to help better their lives, fight for their rights and help them achieve their full potential.
During the event, the children played a game ‘Kids Take Over’, depicting the roles of media personnel, politicians, businessmen and women, sportspersons and entertainers.
Another game was, ‘Recycling Workstation’, in which children were being informed about the importance of saving the environment and recycling articles of everyday use.
‘Takeover Talent Time’ gave children the opportunity to display their skills in the areas of dance, music and other art forms, with an idea to put the children on the world stage.
There were also special performances by children from Oman, Sudan, and Egypt while children of the Hidd Rehabilitation Centre for Special Needs enthralled the audiences with their performance.
The ministry’s band as well as a contingent from the Mounted Police attended the opening ceremony.
“We are grateful to the Ministry of Interior and the United Nations Information Centre, the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation and the United Nations Development Programme for their support in organising the event,” said ‘Bahrain For All’ founder, Nivedita Dhadphale.
“The right to play is a right recognized under the Convention of the Rights of the Child. So we made sure sports activities organized during the event gave ample opportunities to children to take part in their favourite games,” she added.
“Today’s celebration was significant in devoting all activities to promote the ideals and objectives of the welfare of the children of the world. Universal Children’s Day offered each of us an inspirational entry-point to advocate, promote and celebrate children’s rights, translating into dialogues and actions that will build a better world for children. Children of Bahrain and others demanded more respect to children who face abuse, poverty, child labour, wars and other breaches of their rights,” said Samir Imtair Al Darabi.
