Washington DC: The Pentagon has awarded a $24.4 billion contract to Raytheon to accelerate the production of SM-6 missiles as the United States works to replenish stockpiles depleted during the war against Iran.
The five-year agreement, which includes options for two additional years, focuses on driving faster output for the critical anti-air and anti-surface warfare munitions.
Defense officials stated the deal provides long-term industry predictability needed to expand workforce capacity and secure vital supply chains.
The massive investment follows severe hits to American munition supplies from Operation Epic Fury. Reports from the Defense Department inspector general and the Congressional Budget Office warned that high expenditures caused strategic inventory shortfalls and bottlenecks that will leave interceptor supplies reduced for years.
Raytheon confirmed the combat-proven SM-6 missile is operational across land launchers and Navy ship platforms. The company emphasized continuous investments in facilities to remove constraints and meet urgent military demand.
The production push comes as Tehran continues to control the strategic Strait of Hormuz, with Washington taking aggressive steps to sustain long-term military readiness.
