KYIV: An early morning Russian drone strike on a petrol station in Kyiv killed two people and hospitalized four, the city's mayor said on Friday.

Fears are growing in the Ukrainian capital that Moscow has launched a new campaign targeting fuel stations, mirroring tactics long deployed closer to the front line. Ukrainian oil giant Ukrnafta reported that two of its petrol stations were hit simultaneously.

CEO Bogdan Kukura denounced the assault as deliberate terror against civilians with no military objective. Emergency services posted footage of a burnt-out forecourt still smoking after the attack.

The strike follows weeks of Russia deploying faster, jet-powered drones traveling up to 600 kilometers per hour that are difficult to intercept. Expert Igor Koziy stated the primary purpose is to paralyze economic activity.
