Riyadh: Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Pakistan are set to sign a joint defence pact in Jeddah on Friday, according to people with direct knowledge of the situation.
The agreement comes amid rising security tensions in the Middle East and is expected to strengthen military cooperation among the three countries. However, sources have yet to reveal the agreement's specific elements, or whether it will contain a formal collective-defense commitment.
The agreement would bring together three countries with long-standing military relations. Pakistan and Saudi Arabia already have a strategic mutual defence agreement, while Turkey and Pakistan have substantial defence alliances, including military technology and equipment.
With possible implications for the larger Middle East and South Asia, the trilateral deal may represent a major increase in security cooperation between Ankara, Islamabad, and Riyadh.
