Tokyo: Japanese giant Sony hiked its full-year profit forecast on Friday, driven by strong performance in its video games division and a favorable weak yen.
For the fiscal year ending March 2027, the PlayStation manufacturer expects net income to reach 1.21 trillion yen ($7.5 billion), up from its previous 1.16 trillion yen estimate, while group revenues are expected to hit 12.5 trillion yen.
The upgraded outlook follows a strong first quarter from April to June, during which net profit surged 32.1 percent to 342.2 billion yen as sales rose 8.2 percent. Beyond gaming, foreign exchange effects bolstered earnings across Sony's music, film, and image sensor divisions.
The company also anticipates future momentum from major upcoming video game launches, including ‘Marvel's Wolverine’ and ‘Grand Theft Auto VI’.
