China and Pakistan appeal for immediate US-Iran negotiations

Shanghai: China and Pakistan have jointly put pressure on the United States and Iran to immediately cease hostilities and return to negotiations, following a meeting between Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar in Shanghai.

The two governments voiced worry in a joint statement about the worsening security situation and asked all parties to show maximum caution. They emphasised that communication and diplomacy are the only realistic paths to reducing tensions and restoring regional stability.

The request comes as increasing dispute between Washington and Tehran has sparked worries of a larger regional clash, as well as ongoing concerns over security in the Strait of Hormuz and its influence on global petroleum supply.

China and Pakistan have also supported diplomatic efforts to mediate between the United States and Iran in recent months, reaffirming their commitment to promote peace and stability through diplomacy rather than military conflict.
