TEXAS: Elon Musk's artificial intelligence startup xAI has sued a Grok user for allegedly utilizing the system to generate child sexual abuse material and explicit adult deepfakes.

The federal lawsuit, filed in Texas, accuses South Carolina resident Terry Harwood of violating the company's terms of service. Harwood was arrested earlier this year on charges of sexually exploiting minors.

According to the complaint, Harwood uploaded regular photos of adults and minors into Grok to generate sexually explicit images. xAI claims his actions were a calculated scheme to weaponize its AI tool for criminal ends.

The lawsuit warns that Harwood's actions caused profound harm to victims while exposing xAI to legal and reputational damage. The startup is seeking unspecified monetary damages and a permanent court order blocking him from using Grok.

This legal action is one of the first of its kind brought by an AI company against a user for generating abusive content. It follows intense global scrutiny over allegations that the Grok system allows users to easily produce non-consensual deepfakes.
