La Paz : Bolivian prosecutors have launched an investigation into allegations that citizens were recruited to fight for Russia in the war against Ukraine after being lured with false job offers.
The probe follows the circulation of videos on social media showing Bolivian nationals wearing Russian military uniforms. One of the videos featured 29-year-old Jose Maria Soleto, who described his experiences on the battlefield. His wife later said he was killed in combat after reportedly being offered $16,000 to travel to Russia in April.
Authorities in Peru and Colombia are also investigating similar cases involving their citizens. Russia's embassy in Peru has confirmed that some Peruvians signed contracts to join the Russian military, stating that they did so voluntarily and legally.
