Moscow: According to regional Governor Andrey Vorobyov, Ukrainian drone strikes targeted Russia's Moscow region early Monday, killing at least three people and injuring five more.

Workers at an industrial site in Pionersky, near Istra, were among those killed after a drone crashed and started a fire. Three more persons were injured in the same attack, while two more were hurt in a separate drone strike somewhere in the region.

Russia's Defence Ministry said its air defence systems intercepted or destroyed 81 drones above Moscow overnight, while hundreds more were purportedly shot down around the nation. As a precaution, authorities paused operations at numerous Moscow airports.

The attack comes as Ukraine maintains long-range drone operations against Russian military and industrial infrastructure, and Moscow intensifies missile and drone strikes on Ukrainian cities, highlighting the intensifying aerial campaign in the more than four years old conflict.
