GCC Condemns Iranian Attacks on Gulf Tankers and Member States

Gulf bloc holds Tehran fully responsible, invokes right to collective self-defence

The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) issued a sweeping condemnation of Iranian attacks on two tankers navigating the Strait of Hormuz — the Saudi vessel Wadyan and the Qatari tanker Al-Rukayyat — calling the strikes a blatant assault on international maritime security and global energy supplies.

The GCC also denounced repeated Iranian strikes on Bahrain and Kuwait, describing them as serious violations of international law, UN Security Council Resolution 2817, and the US-Iran understanding that established a ceasefire and reopened the strait.

Member states reaffirmed full solidarity, declaring that security among GCC nations is indivisible—any attack on one member constitutes an attack on all—and asserted their right to individual and collective self-defence under Article 51 of the UN Charter.

The bloc urged the UN Security Council to condemn the attacks and ensure unconditional, permanent reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, free of transit fees or unilateral Iranian mechanisms, in line with international maritime law.

Iran was held fully responsible for all consequences of its actions.
