Nation called to pick name for Oman's first budget airliner

People in Oman are invited to choose a brand name for the county's first low-cost airline carrier under the twitter #Naming_the_budget_airline (in Arabic), Khalid bin Hilal Al Yahmadi, CEO of Muscat National Development & Investment Company (ASAAS), announced on Wednesday.

Social media users can submit their suggestion until Friday 10:00 pm, Al Yahmadi said in a tweet.

Hundreds of people have flooded twitter with potential names including Majan, Fly Oman, Air Renaissance, Hudhud airline, FlyMe, Hurmuz, Tolerance and more.

Social media users hailed the first of its kind initiative in Oman as the hashtag has been trending since Wednesday evening.

ASAAS has recently been awarded an air services operator licence to establish Oman’s first low-cost carrier. Given by the Public Authority for Civil Aviation, this new venture is anticipated to fuel economic growth underpinned by strong air traffic demand which is expected to grow by 40 per cent by 2019.
