Zelensky Presses NATO For Air Defences After Brutal Russian Strikes

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has pinned his nation's air defence hopes on NATO following a wave of devastating Russian missile and drone strikes on Kyiv.
On the eve of a crucial NATO summit in Ankara, Russian forces launched 68 missiles and hundreds of drones, killing at least 14 people and severely damaging civilian infrastructure.
The escalation has exposed critical shortages in Ukraine's defence grid. While military units successfully intercepted the drones, an insufficient supply of Patriot interceptor missiles allowed sophisticated Russian ballistic projectiles to punch through defenses completely.
Zelenskyy is urging Western allies to make immediate, firm commitments to replenish these vital stockpiles rather than offering vague future promises.
Beyond immediate supply requests, Kyiv is actively seeking licenses from Washington to manufacture Patriot-compatible components domestically to secure long-term protection. Zelenskyy is slated to press these urgent demands directly to US President Donald Trump during sideline peace talks on Wednesday.
