California: Google is experimenting with a new artificial intelligence (AI) feature for Google Maps that would enable users to place food orders directly through the app, saving them the hassle of doing it manually.

The tool makes use of generative AI to make it easier for customers to locate restaurants, choose menu items according to their preferences, and finish takeout or delivery orders. In some cases, the AI can connect with restaurants on behalf of the user to simplify the ordering process.

The feature is a component of Google's broader effort to incorporate AI into all of its services and improve the ease of daily operations. According to the firm, the feature has not yet been made available to all customers and is presently undergoing limited testing.

If fully implemented, the change could turn Google Maps into a one-stop shop for finding restaurants, making reservations, and ordering food, expanding its role beyond navigating.
