Washington Major Restrictions On Powerful Anthropic AI Models

Washington DC: US Government has officially lifted strict government restrictions on advanced AI models, allowing technology companies to restore global deployment.

This policy reversal follows successful cooperation between private developers and federal regulators to address critical security vulnerabilities.

Anthropic announced it will immediately resume worldwide access to its most powerful systems, Claude Fable 5 and Claude Mythos 5. The Department of Commerce had abruptly blocked these models on June 12 over national security risks regarding potential cyber exploits.

Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick stated that Anthropic worked closely with the administration to mitigate these software risks. In response, Anthropic proposed a standardized industry framework to test future frontier models alongside partners like Google and Amazon.

Other leading labs faced identical regulatory pressures. OpenAI complied with federal requests by limiting its new GPT-5.6 launch to an approved group of partners, illustrating a broader push for rigid safety guardrails.

Defending the government's stance, CIA Director John Ratcliffe compared advanced AI capabilities to digital nuclear weapons. A recent executive order formalizes this collaborative testing relationship.
