Istanbul: A major surge in terror-related arrests has hit Türkiye as authorities aggressively ramp up security operations ahead of the upcoming NATO summit in Ankara.
State media reported that 178 individuals have been formally jailed pending trial following a wave of intense anti-terror raids across the country.
This sweeping security crackdown comes just before the high-profile alliance summit, which is expected to host 32 world leaders, including US President Donald Trump.
Out of 225 total suspects initially taken into custody by police, 34 individuals were later released under judicial supervision.
According to a legal rights group, those placed in pre-trial detention include an array of journalists, academics, lawyers, and civil society volunteers.
