Monrovia: Joseph Boakai, The president of Liberia has promised to ‘expose and destroy’ criminal networks that drive abuse of drugs throughout the nation in an effort to step up the fight against illegal drug trafficking. According to the president, drug trafficking is a major threat to public health, national security, and the future of Liberia's youth.

It is expected that authorities will target drug traffickers, tighten border restrictions, and strengthen law enforcement activities. In order to stop the flow of illegal drugs throughout West Africa, the government has also urged for increased regional cooperation.

Concerns about juvenile drug usage and the effects of drugs on communities nationwide are mounting at the time of the renewed campaign. According to officials, breaking up criminal networks is still a top priority in initiatives to increase societal stability and security.
