BEIJING: China has declared its firm support for Thailand's judiciary after a Thai court issued death sentences to two Chinese nationals involved in the catastrophic 2015 Bangkok bombing.
Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian stated that Beijing fully backs Thailand trying the case in accordance with the law and severely punishing the perpetrators.
The deadly terrorist attack, which tore through the crowded Erawan Shrine in August 2015, resulted in the deaths of 20 people, including seven Chinese citizens, and injured more than 100 others.
Commenting on the long-awaited verdict, Lin strongly condemned the heinous nature of the attack, describing the perpetrators as utterly inhuman. By endorsing the severe sentencing, Beijing has signaled its zero-tolerance policy toward international terrorism and underscored its commitment to seeing justice served for Chinese casualties suffered on foreign soil.
