LONDON: Wimbledon has announced a record 20 percent increase in its total prize money for 2026, bringing the tournament's overall fund to £64.2 million. The historic surge marks the largest annual increase in the competition's history and directly responds to growing demands from professional players for a fairer share of Grand Slam revenues.
Under the new financial structure, the men's and women's singles champions will each take home £3.6 million, reflecting a 20 percent raise from last year. Additionally, the All England Lawn Tennis Club (AELTC) increased first-round losers' earnings to £80,000 and expanded the qualifying draw pool by 25 percent to £6.2 million.
The significant raises follow recent collective actions by top athletes, including shortened press conferences at the French Open and explicit threats of future tournament boycotts.
While players initially advocated for a £71 million total pot, AELTC chair Deborah Jevans expressed hope that the fields would recognize the significance of this unprecedented financial upgrade.
