MADRID: Pope Leo XIV declared that sexual abuse within the Catholic Church remains ‘an open wound’ as he arrived in Madrid for a seven-day state visit. Speaking to reporters aboard the papal plane, the pontiff confirmed he will meet privately with abuse survivors during his trip.
The historic visit coincides with a new state-and-church reparations program designed to compensate historical victims of clergy abuse across Spain.
