Washington DC : U.S. President Donald Trump has signed an executive order aimed at giving federal agencies greater access to advanced artificial intelligence systems, as Washington seeks to strengthen its position in the global race for AI technology.
The order is designed to improve cooperation between government agencies and leading AI companies, allowing authorities to test and assess powerful AI models for national security, cybersecurity and risk-management purposes.
Officials said the move would help the government better understand potential threats linked to AI, including misinformation, cyberattacks and risks to critical infrastructure, while supporting broader efforts to maintain U.S. technological leadership.
The decision comes amid growing competition with China and increasing recognition of AI as a technology with major economic, military and strategic importance.
While supporters say the policy will improve national preparedness and AI safety, critics have raised concerns about oversight, privacy and the potential concentration of power, calling for stronger safeguards and transparency as the government expands its involvement in advanced AI systems.
