Qatar-Singapore Officials Explore Defence Cooperation

His Excellency Mr Lawrence Wong, Prime Minister and Minister of Finance of Singapore, met with His Excellency Shaikh Saud bin Abdulrahman bin Hassan Al Thani, Qatar’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defence Affairs, in Singapore.

The meeting took place at the Istana, Singapore’s presidential palace, on the sidelines of the 2026 Shangri-La Dialogue, a major regional security forum bringing together defence and policy leaders from across the world.

Security developments in focus

According to officials, the two sides reviewed the latest security developments in the region and exchanged views on evolving geopolitical challenges. Discussions also covered areas of cooperation and joint coordination, reflecting shared interests in regional stability amid current international conditions.

The talks underscored the importance of continued dialogue between Gulf and Southeast Asian partners, particularly on defence and strategic issues.

Diplomatic attendance

The meeting was attended by His Excellency Mr Abdulaziz bin Ahmed Al-Maliki Al-Juhani, Qatar’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Singapore, alongside senior officers and officials from both delegations.

The discussions form part of broader diplomatic engagements held during the Shangri-La Dialogue, which serves as a key platform for security cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region.
