PARIS: The Paris Mint announced it will soon begin selling solid-gold coins for investment purposes, marking its first release of pure gold bullion since it halted production of historic Napoleons and Louis a century ago.

Four versions of the newly minted ‘Marianne’ coins are scheduled to go on sale June 16, with weights ranging from one-tenth of an ounce to a full ounce.

One side of the coin will display the symbolic face of Marianne, representing the French Republic, while the reverse side will feature a map of the nation's territories.

The launch aims to democratize the gold market in France amid surging global prices. These pieces will directly compete on the international market with established alternatives such as the South African Krugerrand, the Canadian Maple Leaf, and the American Gold Eagle.

To modernize the asset, the Mint is also offering a digital ‘e-Marianne’ alternative that provides secure vault storage until owners choose to sell.
