Johannesburg: Two travellers' bodies were found in Kruger National Park, one of Africa's largest wildlife reserves. South African officials are looking into their deaths.

The victims, a woman and a 71-year-old man, were reported missing on May 20 after failing to return to their accommodations. Two days later, their bodies were found in a river within the park during the search. According to authorities, the woman suffered blunt force injuries, while the man was stabbed. They had also lost their car.

Authorities started a murder investigation and manhunt for the suspects. According to local media sources, the two may have encountered suspected poachers in a remote region of the park, but no motive has been established.

Park officials announced more ranger patrols, more surveillance, and improved monitoring systems as part of their response to the incident. The murders, according to officials, marked an unusual event in the park's history.

One of the most well-liked tourist sites on the continent, Kruger National Park spans around 20,000 square kilometres in northeastern South Africa and draws millions of tourists with its varied wildlife and safari experiences. As investigations continue, authorities have asked anyone with information about the crime to come forward.
