Sharjah: The United Arab Emirates has welcomed a World Health Assembly resolution that addresses the humanitarian and health impact of attacks on civilians and critical infrastructure such as hospitals, energy sites, and water systems.

The resolution, put forward by GCC countries and Jordan, was adopted during the current session of the World Health Organization’s top decision-making body.

It highlights how such attacks disrupt healthcare services and restrict access to essentials like medicines, vaccines, and clean water, putting public health systems under strain.

Speaking in Geneva, UAE’s Permanent Representative to the UN and other international organisations, Jamal Al Musharrakh, said civilian infrastructure and health services must be protected under international law and should never become targets.

The resolution also condemns attacks in parts of the GCC region and Jordan, citing damage to civilian facilities and casualties, and raises concerns over wider regional risks to supply chains and energy routes.

It further calls for better monitoring and reporting of the health and humanitarian consequences of such incidents.

The UAE said the decision reflects a collective effort to strengthen protection for civilians and essential infrastructure.
