Kampala: Uganda's Ministry of Health confirmed three new cases of Ebola Virus Disease on Saturday, bringing the country's total infections to five. These mark the first locally transmitted cases since the outbreak began in the neighboring Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Two of the newly infected patients are Ugandan nationals linked directly to the country's first case. One is a local driver who transported the index patient, while the other is a frontline healthcare worker exposed during treatment.
The third confirmed case is a Congolese woman who traveled from the DRC to Uganda with mild symptoms. Health officials launched an investigation after receiving a tip from the pilot of her chartered flight to Kampala.
All primary contacts have been identified for close monitoring. The health ministry urged the public to stay calm, noting early treatment improves survival, as the country scales up contact tracing and public health awareness campaigns.
