Washington demands ‘major role’ in Greenland: Report

Washington, DC: The United States has demanded a ‘major role’ in Greenland's future during secret, high-level negotiations with Denmark and Greenlandic officials in Washington. Prompted by US President Donald Trump’s repeated national security warnings regarding Russia and China, the four-month-long talks aimed to ease geopolitical tensions and prevent fallout within NATO.
Washington is aggressively pushing to revise a long-standing bilateral defense pact. The proposed changes would grant American troops the right to stay in Greenland indefinitely, even if the autonomous territory eventually achieves full independence from Denmark.
Furthermore, the US seeks veto power over Greenland's major foreign investment deals to block strategic rivals. Greenlandic leaders are deeply uneasy about this expanding footprint, fearing that Washington's demands impose a heavy, direct encroachment on their territorial sovereignty, despite American interest in cooperating on the island's vast mineral and oil reserves.
