California: Google launched a massive overhaul of its iconic search engine on Tuesday, marking the most significant shift in its 25-year history. The update aims to transform the search bar into an autonomous personal assistant powered by the new Gemini 3.5 Flash model.

The redesigned interface moves beyond traditional links, allowing users to deploy AI ‘agents’ that track complex topics such as apartment listings or sneaker releases independently.

Instead of returning static results, the engine now uses ‘Generative UI’ to build custom visuals and mini-apps, such as localized fitness trackers, directly on the results page.

This pivot toward autonomous features is a direct strategic response to rising competition from AI agents like OpenAI’s OpenClaw. By integrating Search with Google Docs and Gmail, the company hopes to achieve its long-term goal of artificial general intelligence while ensuring its flagship product remains relevant in a rapidly evolving digital era.
