New Delhi: Iran accused the United Arab Emirates of being an "active partner" in the ongoing US-Israeli war against Tehran on Thursday during a BRICS foreign ministers' conference in India, escalating tensions between the Gulf neighbours.

The United Arab Emirates had been accused by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi of personally sponsoring military operations against Iran and permitting attacks to be carried out on its territory.

While attending the BRICS meeting in New Delhi, Araghchi stated on his Telegram channel, "The UAE is an active partner in this aggression, and there is no doubt about it."

Without providing proof, he continued claiming that Abu Dhabi "participated in these attacks and may have even acted directly" against Iran. Araghchi also attacked the UAE's relations with Israel after the two nations reached a normalisation deal in 2020.

Concerns over security in the Strait of Hormuz and elevated regional tensions over the war involving Iran, the US, and Israel coincide with the charges.

Araghchi also highlighted claims made by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that he had secretly travelled to the United Arab Emirates during the fighting, a claim that Emirati authorities had previously rejected.
