ABU DHABI: The United Arab Emirates has issued a firm diplomatic response to Tehran, asserting that Iran has no right to question the UAE’s sovereign decisions regarding its international ties and defense partnerships.
In a statement released on Thursday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) rejected Iranian attempts to use regional defense agreements as a justification for escalating threats or interference in domestic affairs.
The ministry emphasized that the UAE’s strategic partnerships are built on the principles of mutual respect, international law, and the pursuit of regional stability.
This response follows recent rhetoric from Iranian officials suggesting that defense cooperation between Gulf states and Western allies poses a direct threat to regional security.
The UAE countered this by stating that its security arrangements are defensive in nature and aimed at protecting its borders and national interests amid a volatile geopolitical landscape.
‘The UAE maintains the absolute sovereign right to conclude agreements that enhance its national security,’ the statement read, adding that ‘external interference in these bilateral relationships is unacceptable.’
The diplomatic exchange comes at a time of heightened tensions in the Middle East, with the UAE calling for a shift toward dialogue and de-escalation rather than ‘unjustified provocations.’
Abu Dhabi reaffirmed its commitment to regional peace but made it clear that its security architecture remains a matter of national sovereignty, independent of external vetoes or pressure from neighboring states.
